Investigation A (career plan)
This unit was all about careers and planning your future. To do this we had to make a career plan. To do this we first had to investigate and find out what our interests are. We had to write down everything that somehow interested us and figure out what we really want to do. Then we had to find out what we were good at and what skills we had and how we could use those skills in the future. To figure out what career would suit us best we did different test on the internet and the results would be different career possibilities. In the end we had to choose a career and research about it. I chose to be a chemical technician, because I am very interested in science, chemistry and math is easy for me to. I wanted to know more about it so then I decided to write and make a career plan about a chemical technician. TO do this we had to strictly follow the format given to us. First we had to decide what we wanted to become which in my case would be a chemical technician. With the research we had done, we had to write down all the requirements needed for this job. This was not that hard to do, because in the end you could just copy and paste the requirements since we couldn’t make those up. What I found interesting was that they also required to be other things then just be interested in science, math , but they also want you to be a critical thinker, an active learner, be realistic, have good time management, and you should have a lot of training. The next part was to write our current skills and interests, which in this case was not that hard either, because we had been thinking about all our skills and interests the last 3 weeks. I wrote down everything that interested me and I was good at in the area of science, math, chemistry, and I also wrote down my skills in being a good time manager, being very realistic. I also wrote some things for training, experience and education, even though I haven’t had the chance to do something there. I just wrote down what I will do and how I will do it. After we wrote our skills, we had to write about our plan to reach this goal. Here I chose to study in Delhi, India, to reach my career goal. This part was easy, but hard at the same time because we had to make a few things up, but be sure that we wrote the right things. We had to do some research colleges and what you had to do to reach your goal as a chemical technician.
Below you can see my career plan.
The next step we had to make a university entrance video. For this we had to use all the information we had collected.
Career goal:
To become a Chemical Technicians (people that work in the laboratory that deal with work involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences)
Requirements:
•Mathematics – Using mathematics to solve problems is interesting, and useful. There is always a solution
•Science - Using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
•Critical Thinking – questioning answers until the definite solution is found. Evaluating, analyzing solutions and approaching problems
•Active Learning – Understanding and solving problems. Learning from the past and future by investigating carefully. Good decision making.
•Equipment Selection – excellent decision making for the tools needed to do a testing.
•Time Management – Managing time well for yourself and others.
•Realistic – Working with precision and realistic attitude to ones work. Being realistic with time management, solutions, tools and also thinking realistic about what is possible.
•Investigative – investigating the subject well. Finding out enough information for the study and finding of the solution. Having done enough research for the problem solving.
Current skills and interests:
•Mathematics- Math is interesting because it is so logical. You can always find a solution somehow. It is easy because you can always check your solutions and see if you did it correctly or not. Math is one of my favorite subjects because it is relaxing and so logic.
•Science- Science is very interesting, because it can tell us a lot about how and what things are made of. It is interesting how all living things function and how
they have chemical reactions to work how they want to.
•Chemistry- I just love experimenting and figuring out what the solution may be and what the reaction of two chemicals might be.
•Time management- I have good time management and mostly get everything done in time. It is not hard for me to stay focused and finish a project in time.
Plan to reach career goal:
•Education – Study medicine and chemistry in Switzerland for two years. Then study the rest in America. Get a master
•Training – Work at smaller jobs first to collect experience and knowledge. Have apprenticeships and work up to the best possible spot.
•Experience- Collect experience through college, apprenticeships and other related jobs. Experiment in your free time and have many different lab reports. The more precise the better.

The university entrance video was annoying, because I kept messing up. It took me forever to actually film a propper blocks of material for the video. I did it in blocks because I was never able to film everything with out messing up at once. By filming it in blocks, I could read off what I wanted to say and not mess up. Since Mrs. Wilson gave us all the information we needed to know what we had to put in, it was easy to rethink all the things we had to say. We had to include.
Your 3-minute video should include:
o Future career goal
o Qualifications
o Educational background
o Extra-curricular activities
o Volunteer work
o What makes you special (why they should pick you instead of hundreds of other students)
2. Design your video:
o Brainstorm a list of possibilities, including:
• Where you should film it
• What you’ll wear
• What you should include (what you will say)
• Who will film it for you
• What program you’ll use to edit it
• Background music, if any
And since we had already written down everything about us and our interests for the career plan, it was as simple as just to copy what we already had written. I filmed everything in blocks and had paragraphs written down for every block. In other words I just had to read off the screen. The good thing was that it looked like I was looking into the camera but actually I was reading. This made the filming easier and made me seem like a knew what I wanted to say. I included everything what we had to include. I made sure that I didn’t forget anything.
For the investigations it wasn’t always easy to just write down what you were interested in. I thought it was pretty hard, because there was so much, but at the same time it seemed like I had no interests at all. What I just did was write down everything I loved to do and what I would love to do. The questions Mrs. Wilson gave us were very helpful which forced me to actually answer them properly. What I also did was reflect on each activity that I had already done. The reflection took me forever, because there were so many activities to reflect on. All this information was very useful for me in the career plan and university entrance video.
I had Catriona and Reeza watch my entrance video, and both said that it was good. They also told me everything I could have done better, for example to have better lighting, and that the blocks didn’t go well together. To that I adjusted to what they said. I tried to improve the lighting of my video with the settings and edit it. I also tried to make the videos blend in more. It would’ve been good, but the problem was that the blending cut off parts of my video, which bugged me. They also said that I mentioned enough and that it was about the right side. Another thing they said was that I sounded really bored and wasn’t enthusiastic and you could see that I was annoyed with it. The worst part was that they were right. I was annoyed by it and I did talk very bored and not interested, but in the end most of it was good. To me it was important to know that I had included everything. Some of the information in my university entrance video is made up, because there was no choice. For example we had to make up what diplomas w had.
Criteria B
For criterian B we had to decide which job we wanted to research. I chose to become a chemical technician, because I am interested in math, science, chemistry and everything that has to do with medicine. The research for this job was easy because the website (mappingyourfuture.org) gave all the information you needed for this job right away. All the information I found about my career, was on this site. This sight made life a lot easier. The only thing we had to research outside of this sight was the university or college we wanted to study for our career.

Criteria A - Investigation
Future career goal: Chemical Technician
Qualifications: IB Diploma, High-School Diploma, Bi-lingual
I definitely want a college that requires an IB diploma, because then I know that the college is good and is international. I feel more comfortable if I’m around a community that has different viarieties because I’m used to being around being from different parts of the world. This way it allows me to be more open-minded about things and I collect a lot of different experiences.
Educational background: Silliman university elementary school (grades 1-2), International School of Rabaul (Grades 3-4), Center of education of Markdorf, Germany (grades 5-8) & International School of Ulaanbaatar (Grades 8-12)
Due to my parents I have fortunately experienced many different cultures and education systems, from normal governmental schools to IB schools. The different education styles have formed my Character.
Extra-curricular activities: ISU Girls Soccer Team, ISU Girls Volleyball Team, ISU Girls Basketball team, Different school plays, Soccer team of Center of education of Markdorf
Outside of school – Piano (3 years), Babysitting,
I enjoy playing sports and since I came to Mongolia I have been playing in teams and have been accepted to the different ACAMIS events, but due to money problems, I was not able to go. For me it was important to know that I would have been going if I had the money. Sports keeps me balanced.
Volunteer: Sweep- up, Trash pick-ups, backstage For different school plays
I have done different volunteer works last years, but this year I never that the opportunity to, due to health problems. I wish and regret for not being able to reach the required amount.
What makes me special: I am a Character that has never stayed in a country for over 4 years, due to my parents careers. I enjoy being so fortunate to experience the different cultures of Uganda, Cameroon, Kenya, Philippines, Germany, Papua New Guinea and now Mongolia. All cultures have given me an insight into new worlds and therefore shaped my open and learn interested Character. I am not a normal average child, because I have experienced many devastating things at young age, that shaped my opinions about death, bullying and Poverty. I am one of the few people that have been able to experience cultures not only from the outside, but have actually lived within them.

Develop a career plan
Get started now:
1. My career goal shall concentrate on the job chemical technician, because i like working in labs and having to think about the different solutions possible. I love math and chemistry, so I think it will be a good experience to construct a career goal plan for a chemical technician, because then I can see if I really like it and if it really is something I would like to do for the rest of my life.
2. Obviously I will have to study and go to college. I would love to go to college somewhere where I haven’t lived. I don’t see myself as a German nor a Swiss, because I’ve never really lived there for a very long time. I see myself more international and so I really want to go to a international college. I will have to have a high IB score to be able to go to the colleges that offer the study of chemical technicians.

2. Design your video:
•Costumed like a laboratory (Since I’m applying for a chemistry university)
•Maybe something formal or smart. Then I will seem professional
•Take video at a desk. (sort of news reporter style)
•Mention qualifications, educational backgrounds, extracurricular acts, volunteer, what makes you special, future career goal.
•Video shouldn’t be too long. Short and precise
•Enough detail
•Use complicated words (Fremdwörter)
•Have a file of paper in front of you.
•Look confident (as if you do it every day)
•edit it in movie maker ( 1 minute movie = 1 hour editing)
•No background music (distraction)

Investigation Part 2
Investigation part 2
School
School is very important to me and I try to do my best because in the end it will affect my future. The better my grades will be, the more choices will be open for me. I think school is important for the future, but grades do not really show how intelligent you are. They only show that you are good at school. Most successful people we know today were horrible or even dropped out of school. I am not planning on dropping out of school, but I think grades don’t show how intelligent people are. Of course the better grades are, the more choices for colleges are open and therefore the more future choices you have.
Volunteer work
Sweep up day
This was a day where we just swept up the soccer field and removed stones and other obstacles. It was a whole lot of hard work and there were about 50 people helping. It took as about 5 hours to clean the whole field. It was on this day where I learnt that I do not want to work this hard all my life to earn money. I want to have a future where I have to think. I did it voluntary and earned CAS hours for it.
Clean up day
Clean up day is a day where we as a school community go somewhere, such as a riverbed and clean up this area. This day was a day where we really got dirty and cleaned up. Personally I wouldn’t have done it, but fortunately I was forced to do it. I think it taught me a lot about how our community can help others and the place actually looked clean for week after our clean up.
Talent show
This was completely voluntarily. At the talent show I performed with three others and danced for a crowd. During our practices we went through phases of loving and hating each other, but in the end we had a great performance and had a really fun night. I collected a lot of experience about cooperating with people and having to deal with people. I don’t really see entertaining people as something I want to do in the future.
School play
For the school play I was part of the back stage team, but to be honest I feel really bad for not being consistent and staying in. I didn’t learn a lot about being at the back of a stage, but I learnt about how being inconsistent and unreliability can affect others badly. I felt really guilty after this experience. I think I learnt a lot about being reliable and taking consequences.
Although I have done many other things that weren’t volunteer work, but still gave me a lot of experiences such as babysitting. I love children and am responsible. I have learnt a lot about children and I don’t really see it as something I would do my whole life.
List of activities I belong to
• Soccer
• Basketball
• Volleyball
• Running for fun
List of volunteer work
• Sweep up day
• Clean up day
• Talent show
• School play
